2 Reasons Why You Should Switch To Plant-Based Cleaners

Back in the “old days” natural cleaners were the only choice. People made do with natural oils and solvents to do their cleaning. In the early 1900’s there began to be a shift towards mass produced natural cleaning products. By the 1950’s the petrochemical industry was well established and capable of producing effective cleaners at a far lower cost. By the 1980’s society had seemingly forgotten about natural cleaners or deemed them as primitive. In recent years there has been an effort to shift back to natural cleaners albeit with the benefit of modern technology. The results are quite profound. There are now a plethora of modern plant-based cleaners that are every bit as capable as their more synthetic conventional counterparts.

Benefits Plant-Based Products

Safer for you and your family

Traditional cleaners contain toxic chemicals. There’s a good reason you get a sore throat after cleaning the bathroom with them. If you look on the label you’ll see chemicals that are known to disrupt the endocrine system, cause cancer or are neurotoxins. Unfortunately the effects of those toxins are more severe on kids, and pets due to their size. Their small body masses aren’t capable of shedding the toxins as easily as adults. Modern plant-based formulations don’t employ the use of toxic chemicals.

Environmentally Friendly, Eco-Friendly, Go Green, Healthy Family

One of the most noticeable differences is dramatic reduction in indoor pollution. Traditional cleaners produce Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). The word “organic” in that term doesn’t mean “without synthetics” as we currently use it with regard to healthy living - it means “carbon based” as in petrochemicals. VOCs have been associated with many health problems such as liver, kidney and central nervous system damage. The immediate effects however are headaches, skin irritation and sore throats. You’ll be glad to know that most plant-based cleaners do not produce VOCs!

Safer for the environment

As you can imagine, if harsh chemicals can pollute our indoor environment they also have an enormous impact on the planet. Many of the ingredients in conventional cleaners are not biodegradable and therefore continue to cause pollution for an unlimited period of time. Most of these toxic chemicals are not derived from renewable sources so they have a chaotic effect on our ecosystems. These toxins escape our households into the environment, polluting our rivers, lakes, and wildlife. What is worse is that much of it comes back to us eventually as the planet is a closed system.

Environmentally Friendly, Earth Friendly, Plant-based cleaner

Plant-based cleaners have come down in price, become very effective and are readily available. So why not make that switch away from conventional to plant-based cleaners.
